CENTLA MARSHES TOUR

On December 5th, 2021 I had the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful experience in the municipality of Centla, located in the state of Tabasco, getting to know the most important wetlands of the American continent: The Biosphere Reserve Pantanos de Centla.

We started with a visit to the Peasant and Indigenous Theatre in the community of Simon Sarlat. The play "Bodas de sangre" with more than 100 actors, scenes on horseback and live regional music was a great experience, at the end of the play to see the excitement of the artistic cast in celebration of the event, the delicious food, the battle of the bonfires, so many things to see and do left us wanting more, even so we had to continue our tour.

We arrived at our next destination in Tabasquillo where we boarded boats and took a ride on the Grijalva river, enjoyed the view, the wetlands, witnessing something indisputable in our beloved Tabasco; "we are surrounded by water". On our boat trip I was surprised by an event in the mangrove area. Entering the area the colour of the water changes and when hitting the bottom with an oar, due to the decomposition of organic matter, the bottom releases gases in small quantities (manifesting itself in bubbles, like effervescent water). It was a curious event even for me, a native of the state.

Continuing our boat tour we arrived at La Casa del Agua, the Uyotot-ja Museum, where we took a guided tour through the different huts (or areas of the museum) and were given a tour of the wetlands and mangroves. We enjoyed the interactive content of the museum. I admired the well adapted form of our ancestral culture by seeing the well made and well thought out form of the museum and in my case I had the audacity to climb the 20 metre high tower and see the amazing landscape that can be admired from there, appreciating the union of the three rivers called San Pedrito, Usumacinta and the Grijalva (two of them considered to be the most abundant in Mexico). It should be noted that I am fearful of high altitudes so this was a great achievement.
Our tour culminated with a great meal and live music.

Observation tower (I couldn't take the picture from the chasm hehe)

During this experience I was able to reaffirm once again that Tabasco is a beautiful state, full of extraordinary sights and amazing places to visit.

Live the experience in Pantanos de Centla and know the other 6 routes that Tabasco has for you. 😁
